Snow Will Be Coming To an End...Watch For Freezing Drizzle

So We didn't see as much ice as we could have..At the last moment the temps dropped another 2 degrees which saved a lot of people from being hit with quite a bit of ice.

Now there is still a few warning in effect until later this evening as show by the picture below.
The storm that dumped 6" (locally more) of snow in spots since last night will continue to exit the eastern Great Lakes. Some areas did not see a whole lot of snow (far Eastern U.P. and NE/E Lower Michigan).

Behind this system, we will still see some snowshowers (mixed with rainshowers and sleet at times). There will be a few heavier snow bursts before we start to completely quiet down later tonight into Monday morning.Some sunshine returns for Monday. Highs will be in the upper 30's north and into the 40's south. So a much brighter day, for sure!

Rainshowers are looking more and more likely for later Tuesday with a chance for a few rain/snowshowers on Wednesday.Another storm system needs to be watched for later Thursday into Friday.

Snow is possible (or a mix) with this system overnight.While we will see a break from storminess for late Friday into Saturday, yet another system could hit us for Sunday and early next week.

Its Officially Spring but the Weather Isn't Showing It

Officially Its Spring...but the weather isn't showing a hint that its spring.. We are forecasting 5-10 Inches of snow with possibly a .10" hundreds of ice.. Now of coarse my hero Jim Lehocky has been all over this and is explaining what this storm is doing in detail..

**Numerous Winter Weather Alerts**

The storm continues to be on track for tonight and Sunday.

*Winter Storm Warnings and Advisories have been posted for parts of the viewing area*

The computer models continue to be in general agreement on path of storm with the heaviest snow in W/NW Michigan to the Tip of the Mitt to the Eastern U.P. Check out the regional radar loop here to see where the heaviest snow is falling with this system..and the movement.

The storm will move on through Jackson Michigan around daybreak Sunday.This puts all of the viewing area in the cold part of this storm. However, just a few thousand feet above the surface, we will see some warmer air move in from the SE and station itself south of a line from Rogers City to Howard City.

This will complicate the forecast even more because we have a chance for see some mix of snow, freezing rain, sleet and very cold rain which will hamper snow amounts, but will make travel very difficult nonetheless. Areas near Big Rapids, Mt. Pleasant, Gladwin and Midland could see mostly a cold rain tonight.

Remember, a temp drop of a degree or two could mean a freezing rain/mix event.So, again, later tonight and early Sunday, south of a Rogers City-Howard City line, we have that chance for sloppy and slick mix. North of that line, including into the U.P., it should be mainly a snow event.And that leads us to snow totals.

We have to take into account A LOT of factors here for snow totals. This storm is coming through late tonight and early Sunday. Temperatures will be cold enough to support heavy snow in NW/W Lower Michigan and the E. U.P. But we have seen the ground warm up during the daytime hours the past few weeks and that could and will limit some higher amounts.

Also, *any change of path of this storm and any change in the upper level temperature profiles will change where the heavy snow falls compared to the slick and sloppy mix.Ok. In terms of total snowfall for late tonight through Sunday.....

I believe the heaviest snow (5"-10"+) will fall from Oceana/Newaygo Counties NE to Cheboygan County also into Chippewa and Mackinac Counties in the E.U.P. This includes all of NW Lower Michigan in this particular area. Now, with that forecasted mix south of that Rogers City-Howard City line, amounts should be less.

The winds will be brisk tonight and Sunday adding to the misery of the storm. Winds will be NE overnight 12-22mph and gusty. On Sunday, the winds will shift more to the N/NW 15-25mph and gusty.

The bulk of the storm will exit the region (from SW to NE) late in the day Sunday, but the wrap around moisture will give us more snow (and rain/snow mix) through the afternoon hours with some additional, sloppy accumulations in the U.P. and NE Lower Michigan.

Turning Colder...Watching This Weekends Storm

The skies over Northern Michigan have been clearing nicely this afternoon, the exception is in the U.P. where the clouds are staying thick. A weak cold front coming through tonight will deliver some colder temperatures. Overnight lows of 23 to 32 are expected. You will see more clouds North of M-72 tomorrow as the colder air sits overhead.

Further south, you will see more sunshine and thus warmer temperatures. The U.P. and spots in the thick clouds will see highs in the 30's. Those of you south of M-55 be ready for warmer temperatures with highs in the 40's to near 50 in Mt. Pleasant. North of the straits the cold air will be thick enough to set off a few flurries or snow showers. Our eyes are still focused on a big weekend storm. Saturday starts off quiet but by the afternoon you'll notice a change coming. Winds will be picking up and the clouds rolling in.

Rain is expected to move in and then mix or change over to snow Saturday night. This storm looks to be a messy one, so be prepared for almost anything. Sunday's winds stay very strong blowing the rain and snow around. As colder air moves in any mix will turn over to snow by the afternoon hours. Monday's weather is only a short break before another storm heads into Northern Michigan on Tuesday. This one also looks to bring in a messy mix of rain/ snow and strong winds.

Brisk Winds Continue...Rain Moving In Tomorrow Night

Strong high pressure to our east and a pretty strong area of low pressure to our west will provide us with a windy period through Tuesday evening. Winds will be E/SE 12-22mph and gusty.

Then the system moves through Wednesday a.m. with winds shifting to the west.These cool, dry winds will eat away at most of the rain that tries to make it into the region today-Tuesday. But eventually the rain will win.

The best chance for rain will be later Tuesday into Wednesday a.m.*The strong E/SE winds and very low relative humidities will create an elevated fire danger this afternoon and evening. Fires can easily spread in conditions at this time of year because vegitation is still dormant and dried out.

Highs today will be in the middle to upper 30's north to the 40' south. Lows tonight will be in the middle 20's and lower 30's. There is a chance for some sprinkles near Lake Michigan in Oceana and Mason counties today But, again, with those winds eating away at the moisture, we expect most areas to be dry with mid to high level cloudiness.

Highs on Tuesday will be a few degrees warmer as the chance for rain increases later on especially into the late evening and nighttime hours.Showers and thundershowers are likely Wednesday a.m. then tapering off to scattered showers and drizzle into the p.m.

Thursday is looking dry but the shower chance once again enters the picture for later Friday into the weekend. It will also be windy Friday-Sunday.

Congrats and Clearing Skies

First Of all I want To say Congratulations to the McBain Rural Agricultural Schools Girls for being the finals for the State Championship! The last time they went that far it was 1984. So great job girls!

Now back to the weather:

High pressure is sliding into the region tonight. It's very cold and dry, so the clouds you see right now are not going to last. Much of the night will be clear and that means some very cold temperatures. Lows range from 5 to 15 degrees.

Spring begins at 7:44 AM with a lot of sunshine. It may be cold but don't worry the sun is going to warm things very nicely. Highs will be about normal with a range of 35 to 43 degrees. Friday night brings a return of clouds and the small chance of a shower.

That chance continues into Saturday afternoon. Skies Saturday look to be cloudy to mostly cloudy with highs in the 40's.Sunday shows periods of sunshine and some warmer temperatures. Highs are going to be in the 40's and 50s.

Monday is now looking dry but rather cloudy with the mild weather continuing.

Cooler Weather Moving In For the Rest Of The Week

Although we are much cooler than yesterday, we are still looking at high temperatures today above the normals (38 north to 43 south).

The mercury will rise up into the 40's north and into the 50's south.In terms of sky cover, we are looking at a mix of sun and clouds with a slight chance for a shower or two in the far north by evening as a secondary cold front approaches out of Canada.

This same cold front will usher in cooler (ok...colder) air for later tonight and Thursday. We might be able to squeak out a few lake snowshowers as the winds shift out of the NW. Lows tonight will be in the teens and lower to middle 20's.

Highs on Thursday will be around 30 in the north and upper 30's in the south.

Spring officially starts Friday at 7:44a.m. It is basically going to be a "normal" Spring Day with some sunshine and temperatures where they should be...into the middle 30's north and lower 40's south.

Saturday is looking dry although we will see a mix of sun and clouds. Highs will be in the upper 30's to middle 40's south.

The chance for rain increases later Sunday into early next week.

60's Tomorrow Watching The Weekend

Plain and simple. We have been pretty spoiled the past three days (including today) with the sunshine and progressively mild temperatures.

The mercury was able to reach up into the middle 40's to lower 50's north (coolest near Lake Michigan and Superior) and into the middle 50's and some lower 60's south.Tonight, clear skies are likely with some patchy haze.

Lows will be in the 20's and lower/middle 30's.A cold front will move on through the region late Tuesday evening/early Wednesday morning giving us a chance for a few showers at that time. There is a slight chance for a thundershower or two. But before that happens, we will see some very mild temperatures.

Even as the clouds increase, the mercury will jump up dramatically. Highs in the U.P. will be in the 50's. Across much of the L.P. we will see highs in the 60's. There is a chance for a few lower 70's especially in the southern areas.

Of course, we will see the coolest temperatures near Lake Michigan.After a chance for some early morning showers on Wednesday, skies will be variably cloudy. It will be cooler but still rather pleasant with highs in the 40's and some lower 50's.Thursday (the last day of Winter!) is looking partly to mostly sunny with a few light lake snowshowers off of Lake Superior and Lake Michigan.

Highs will be in the middle 30's to lower 40's.Spring starts Friday at 7:44a.m. and we are looking at a mostly sunny day with clouds increasing late in the north.

The weekend is looking somewhat unsettled. We are going to have to keep an eye on the rain and storm threat

Spring Starts This Friday, Dylan Is Going To Florida

Today will be partly cloudy with highs in the lower 40's north to middle to upper 40's south. Some areas with no, or little, snowcover will possibly get to around 50!

Monday is looking dry with partly cloudy skies. Highs will be in the middle 40's north to lower 50s' south.A cold front will move through

Tuesday afternoon. It will give us a chance for some showers. But it will be mild with highs in the middle to upper 40's north and in the 50's south.

It will be cooler on Wednesday with a chance for a scattered rain/snow mix. Highs will be in the middle to upper 30's north to the lower/middle 40's south.

Thursday is looking partly cloudy with highs in middle 30's to lower 40's. We could see a snowshower or two later on.

Friday will be a bit cooler than normal (Spring starts at 7:44a.m. Friday!) with highs in the 30's and a chance for a few snowshowers.

Now here is one more big piece news. I am going to Florida with my school for 5 days! Now yes we have to drive down there which could could be interesting... But i am thinking i will like the Nice Hot Weather!! So i think this will be my last post until Next week and then a week after Florida we it will be on spring break so it could not work better. So i will have pictures and updates after i get back. But i checked the forecast and it looks like we will have lower 80's for the entire time and only one day with a chance of t-storms but that is only a 30% chance..

Intense Storm Moves Through Northern Michigan Tonight

We are keeping an eye on a storm system that will zip on through the region tonight and early Wednesday.

Ahead of it for the rest of today, we are still looking at a mix of sleet, snow and rain in the north and plain ol' rain south of M-72/M-55.

Highs today will be in the middle 30's north to the lower/middle 40's south. Winds will be out of the E/SE 8-18 mph heading into the evening hours.

Tonight is going to be quite interesting. The low will track on through the central U.P. On the west side of the low (the western 1/4 of the U.P. and NW Wisconsin) could see blizzard conditions later tonight and Wednesday.The cold front will swing on through the region around midnight (+/- a couple hours either way).

Ahead of it, we will see rain and a chance for thunderstorms. Behind it, the winds will howl as cold air slams into the region.Temperatures this evening (up to the front passage) will be in the 30's and 40's.Temperatures around 8a.m. Wednesday will be in the upper teens west to the middle/uppper 20's east near Lake Huron.

Whatever liquid we have remaining on the roads in the early morning hours could very well "rapid freeze" especially around and just after daybreak.The winds will be a big concern once the cold front passes through the region after midnight. Ahead of it, winds will be out of the SE 10-20mph, but behind it, they will shift from the West 20-40mph and gusty.

*High Wind Watches and Advisories are posted for the region*These strong winds will continue into Wednesday p.m. but shift more to the NW. Lake effect snowshowers are likely...but with the strong winds and plenty of ice cover on the Great Lakes, snow amounts will be held in check.

Things quite down for Thursday, Friday and Saturday. On Sunday, though, we could see yet another storm.

New Hail Minimum Requirements for Michigan

In Partner with the National Weather Service. The Central Region of the United States has agreed to now only issue Severe Thunderstorm Warning if hail has reached 1.00" In diameter. With also Severe Damaging Winds.

Now basically in lamens terms it means that we will hopefully see less Severe Thunderstorm Warnings. For Example, When a Tornado Warning is issued people usually take it very seriously and take immediate action. Well the NWS thinks that Severe Warnings are issued to frequently and that they should trim them down. Its not a huge change but it does mean that if a Severe Thunderstorm Warning is issued..It means that storm will be packing a little more of a Punch...

Warm, Rainy, Icey, AWWW Got To Love Spring!!!

A storm system will be taking aim on the region for Saturday and Sunday.It appears that this will be a "warm" system giving us mostly a rain (and thunder) threat. There is, however, a chance for an occasional mix in the U.P. and Straits area for Saturday as temperatures here will only reach into the middle to upper 30's. Farther south, we are looking at temperatures mostly in the 40's....hence a rain event is looking likely for both days. Dense fog is also expected Saturday night with the warmer air overrunning the snow pack that still exists in many areas (mostly north of US-10).While the weekend in general is looking gloomy, Sunday will be the day we will have to monitor flooding potential especially in our central counties. There is also a chance for thunderstorms that will enhance the heavy rain threat. Highs on Sunday will be similar to Saturday's highs.In the near term....for tonight, we are looking at partly cloud skies early then increasing clouds later on. Lows will be in the teens and lower 20's.With considerable cloudiness Thursday along with a chance for some light drizzle/rain in the L.P. and some very light mix in the U.P., highs will be in the middle 30's north to lower/middle 40's south.On Friday, skies will clear up a bit allowing some sunshine through. Highs will be in the lower 40's north and upper 40's to lower 50's south.Then getting ready for that unsettled weekend!

Now also i want to add in that we are going to see 3 systems to come together to bring possibly a MONSTER storm. Now there could be a huge problem. We could either see rain, or ICE... If we see the ice. The storm system would be called an official ice storm.

Dylan's Weather Going Under Amazing Changes

Ok first of all i want to tell everybody the weather before we get to far into the website design. The weather for the rest of the week is going to basically going to be warm. We are going to see some clouds but really i do not think anyone is going to argue with 40's for temps!!!!

Also i just want to tell you. The NWS came out with an official snow fall report so far this winter. Cadillac has had 215" so far this year. That breaks the all time record!!! WOW

Ok now i want to say sorry that the website content wasn't updated for 3 days. We have had Internet problems and those i really cant control.

Ok now i also want to tell everyone this. I am going to stop all major improvements to the website until after June 13th, I know that i will make small minor changes to the site. But i have some really amazing plans for the site. I want to put a live weather ticker on the website. I also want to start a twitter account so we can have live weather updates. Now on more really huge change that i want tot make is moving the blog. I am very limited to what i can do with the blog. So i think i am going to move the blog on my sever...Now its going to be a big pain in the neck at first. That's why i am not going ahead with any monstrous changes until after school is done.

Storm Makes A Nasty Impact With Ice/Snow/Rain

The storm hit the region as expected.....but it never really came "together" for many of us as the computer models (and us forecasters) thought it would.Heavy snow tracked on through extreme northern lower Michigan and the U.P. through the first part of the night....while areas south of Frankfort/Gaylord/Alpena to M-55 saw a mix and rain. South of M-55 it was mostly rain through 230a.m.

*We do have some remaining warnings and advisories in effect including a Blizzard Warning for Alger and Marquette Counties in the central U.P.*

This storm jaunted a bit farther north than expected so the rain moved a bit farther north thus the snow moved a bit farther north as well.Please email us at weather@9and10news.com with your current conditions and snow totals (or ice/rain totals)!The cold air will continue to spill in today...temperatures this afternoon will be in the teens north to the lower 20's south.There will be a occasional snowshowers through the day especially near Lake Michigan and Lake Superior put a coating of snow on the frozen ground making things a bit more slippery.Winds will be out of the north today at 15-25mph and gusty adding to the chill.The weekend is looking colder than normal with highs in the teens and 20's but other than a few light snowshowers being possible, it is looking pretty quiet!

Storm Track Has Moved Just A Little

Ok The Storm Track has moved a little bit. That means more snow for the north and freezing ran for M-55 south....Yay :(

Jim Lehocky Has This Update..

A fast moving storm system will zip on through the region overnight tonight.Despite its fast moving nature, it will provide much of the state with some type of weather concern.

First off, we are looking at the potential for some freezing rain/mix late afternoon along and south of M-55. This threat will continue through much of the evening hours before it changes over to snow. Total snow accumulations in this area (on top of the freezing rain/mix) will be around 2"-4".

If we stay "warm" enough where the freezing rain/mix sticks around longer, snow amounts will be less. If some colder air gets into this system quicker...even by a couple of hours, even parts of our central counties could see heavier snow totals.From M-55 north to around M-32, we are looking at a chance for a brief mix of freezing rain/snow this evening then a rapid changeover to snow will occur. We are looking at 4"-6" of snow here by daybreak.

Locally higher amounts are possible.From M-32 north to Eastern Mackinac County/SE Chippewa County, mostly snow is likely with the most intense snow moving through late evening through a several hours after midnight. Amount here by daybreak will be 6"-8" but we should see some areas topping 8". Western Mackinac County should see the lesser amount of snow.In Chippewa and Luce Counties in the U.P. snow is likely and some will be heavy. Amounts will be 4"-8" with the lesser amounts likely farther NW of I-75. So, as you can see, travel conditions will worsen through the evening hours in all areas and continue through much of the nighttime hours.To top it off, winds on the backside of this system by daybreak will be out of the North at 15-25mph with gusts over 30mph.With the freezing rain/mix, heavy snow potential and the strong winds Friday a.m., this is a high-impact storm.

Highs today will be in the lower 30's north to middle to upper 30's south before the precip moves in late p.m. Lows tonight will be in the single digits to lower teens north and into the teens to around 20 south.Numerous warnings and advisories have been issued by the National Weather Service. Please check out the Winter Weather Alert graphic on www.9and10news.com for the latest county outline.It will be colder and windy for Friday afternoon with partly cloudy skies with only a few snowshowers expected.A quiet weekend is in store with cooler than normal temperatures with partly cloudy skies and only a few light snowshowers possible.

Big Storm Moving In Thursday Night

Ok here we go once again. But this system has quite a punch to it and has gave us a huge forecasting challenge. It seem like every day we would have a new forecast track with new ideas on how the storm was going to affect us. Ok now just to give everyone a heads up this forecast still could change and even one of my forecast products said we could have all rain. Which i really don't think is going to happen. Anyways the totals came out to be as much as 15 inches and as low as 3-4" inches with ice. GREAT....

Ok Now here is Meteorologist Jim Lehockys point of view on this really complex system.

We are still expecting a high-impact winter storm to hit the state Thursday evening through Friday morning.

*Winter Weather Advisory* for Luce, Chippewa and Mackinac Counties through 7p.m. today for a few inches of snow*

This storm will have a lot of energy with it giving us the potential to see heavy snow, some icy mix, and windy conditions.

This is what I am going with:

A heavy swath of snow should fall in an area from Pentwater to Harrison to Harrisville north to the Eastern U.P. So basically, much of the viewing area has the chance to see heavy snow. Not only do we have the snow to worry about, we have the chance to see some icy mix just south of the snow area. That puts the icy mix south of that Pentwater-Harrison-Harrisville line to the Grand Rapids-Flint area. Remember, any fluctuation of the storm track will move the precip areas accordingly.

Yesterday morning, most of the computer models were tracking the storm farther south. Even a slight change of course will alter the forecast.Snow amounts could be hefty. As a matter of fact, the Hydrometeorological Prediction Center (National Weather Service) has put Northern Michigan and the U.P. in the path of the heaviest snow, also. In excess of 8"-12" could fall. Traveling Thursday evening-Friday early morning will be hazardous if this storm develops and takes the expected path. Again, not only do we have the snow to contend with, we also have the chance for an icy mix in parts of central and southern Michigan.Until this all comes together, for today we are looking at occasional snow across the U.P. by midday and into the p.m. hours. 1"-3" will be possible here.

South of the Straits, we are looking at a patchy rain/snow/sleet mix.Highs today will be in the lower 30's north and middle to upper 30's south.Tonight, skies will become mostly cloudy with a small chance for freezing drizzle or mis. Lows will be in the 20's.The clouds will thicken up Thursday with the snow moving in late p.m. into the evening hours.We get new data every few hours and we will update the expected storm track right here and also on 9&10 News.-

More Lake Effect Snow...Could See Up To 1ft by Tomorrow Morning

Its already bee an amazing snow fall already. We have see 15" at our studios in McBain. It looks like we could see another 4-6 Inches by tomorrow morning. That with blowing in drifting snow, Could mean very nasty conditions tomorrow morning. The NWS in Gaylord has issued a Winter Storm Warning until 6 A.M and also a Winter Weather Advisory until 6 A.M.

It possible that we could have some school closings or delays tomorrow morning. But i am not betting on anything because the snow bands could change. I have a video alert update coming out soon..Lets hope it doesn't take to long.

Ok now we also have another storm on the horizon. It looks like we could have a pretty powerful winter storm starting Wednesday night and ending on SATURDAY.. Now this system could mean really heavy wet snow or a mix of Ice/Rain/and Snow witch no one wants. Now some of the forecast models are now taking this system farther south. We will have to see what happens.

Lake Effect Snow Won't Stop

Snow, Snow, Snow..It doesn't stop. But the signs of spring are on the door.

Ok so it looks like the forecast were 50/50. Ok so the snow totals were a little off. We got about 4-5 inches of snow at Dylan's Weather in McBain. We also had a report of 35 MPH wind gust in McBain. So it wasn't like a blizzard..but we got some snow..but whats new!!!!!

Ok so we also have some warnings..A Winter Storm Warning remains in effect for the UP and NW Lower. A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect for Otsego, Roscommon, Crawford, Wexford, Missaukee, Manistee, Benzie and Emmet county until Midnight.

Ok now for the rest of the week it looks like we could see some more snow. Yes of coarse its lake effect but other than that if you font usually get lake effect snow then you will be fine. OK other than the snow the temperatures will be on the cold side in the lower to middle 20's.

Now onto spring. We are 4 weeks away form the official start of spring!!!! Yipeee. Now that really means that are about 6-7 weeks away but don't be discouraged if you want spring. We will start to see warmer temperatures starting next week. Maybe into the 40's

Heavy Lake Effect Snow Does Stop..The

First of all I wanted to say that new york was amazing. There was so much to see and I can't believe that I got the chance to see all the amazing sights. Now in about a month and a half I also get the chance to go to Florida...I get to be in Disney world for 4 days!!! That should also be fun. Click here to see some of the photos

Ok now onto the weather. We are going to be in quite a mess over the next few days. Now the National Weather Service is saying that this could be quite a dandy. They are saying 6-10" Now i am thinking that could be a little off. Really i am thinking that we could see up to 14" inches in a few spots.

Here is what Jim Lehocky (the best meteorologist ever) had to say about this storm

"Remember, this storm is getting organized in western Kansas right now and will strengthen as it approaches us. It will really intensify just to our east Wednesday afternoon/evening.The first wave of heavy snow will move into the region later this evening across western lower Michigan and expand rapidly E/NE overnight....engulfing the entire viewing area. We are looking at a 2"-4"...maybe 3"-5" of snow by Wednesday mid/late-morning in many areas.We very well could see the snow diminish just a bit for the midday period in most areas before (here comes the 2nd punch) the snow *and wind increases once again mid/late p.m. into the evening and nighttime hours.

Temperatures will be in the upper 20's to middle 30's through the morning/midday hours...then the mercury should fall by mid to late p.m. once the winds really ramp up out of the NW/N at 15-25mph and gusty. As the storm system pulls away Wednesday evening, the wraparound moisture (and some energy associated with it) will continue to produce some moderate to occasionally heavy snowfall. But the winds will be the big worry. They will be out of the NW 15-25mph and gusty Wednesday evening through Thursday evening. Snowfall (on top of what we see late tonight/Wednesday a.m.) could add up quite a bit. After it's all said and done, several areas will have to chance to see over 12"-15" of snow by Thursday night...especially in the snowbelts off of Lake Superior and Lake Michigan.With the winds and colder temperatures later Wednesday through Thursday, the snow will be easier to blow around.

With the forecasted strong winds, we are looking at near blizzard conditions developing especially at night (Wed. night/Thu. a.m.). Record Highs Today. Big Storm This Week

Record Highs On This Saturday....

SHORTLY AFTER NOON, CHERRY CAPITAL AIRPORT REACHED 50 DEGREES. THIS TIES THE OLD RECORD OF 50 DEGREES LAST SET IN 1925.

AT THE GAYLORD AIRPORT...THE TEMPERATURE REACHED 45 DEGREES AT 313 PM THIS AFTERNOON...BREAKING THE OLD RECORD OF 44 DEGREES FROM 1990.

FINALLY...AT THE PELLSTON AIRPORT...THE TEMPERATURE REACHED 43 DEGREES AT 1150 AM THIS MORNING...TYING THE OLD RECORD OF 43 DEGREES LAST SET IN 1965.

Now here is the forecast. It will be sharply colder tonight, though, as a cold front is moving through. Look for lows mostly in the 20s by morning, and a refreeze of standing water on roadways, with gusty breezes at times from the northwest.

Sunday looks like a split day across the viewing area. Northern areas (generally north of M-72 in the lower peninsula) will see clouds, breezy conditions and highs in the upper 20s to near 30. Areas south of M-72 will see partly to mostly sunny skies (more sunshine the further south you go) with highs ranging from the low 30s in Traverse City to the upper 30s in Mt. Pleasant.

Temperatures will again be mild for Monday through Wednesday of this coming week. After sunshine Monday and some more upper 30s to mid 40s across the area Tuesday and Wednesday will bring scattered showers (with the slight chance of some icing in the early morning hours) but with afternoon highs generally in the upper 30s to mid 40s.

Wednesday night a storm system will approach that will bring rain initially late Wednesday that will pick up in intensity before changing over to potentially heavy snow Thursday morning. This will mark the end of our mild stretch of weather and a return to normal February temperatures for awhile.

We will continue to monitor what could be a pretty major winter storm (the kind we haven't had in a few weeks) on Thursday.

Forecast Models Having Fun With This System

Ok. The blog is starting to get better and better. I am trying to make everything look nice and smooth in my spare time. I haven't had a lot of that in a while. Just please bare with me! :)

Ok now getting on to the big storm that we are expecting. The forecast models have not made up their minds yet. Some are saying that we will have two different storms and that one will be on Saturday and then on Tuesday. Some new data is saying that we could see the first system stall out over us and then the next storm moves in and almost in some words creates a MONSTER storm. Now once again there could be a lot that changes in the next few days. This could be bad. We could see Snow, Rain, and Ice in these next storms.

Ok Here is the forecast above. It is going to get quite warm!!! (and messy)

Here We Go Again

Ok Sorry For the lack of post, I just launched a new Newscast and i was hard at work on that.

It looks that some of my earlier post were correct. I had a a theory that the jet stream would start to move northward and that the storms would follow. Well it looks like I was right. We are starting to the see pattern that was setting up before Christmas. Which brought us a big snow storm every few days. If this pattern holds true that means a lot more snow and probably some ice events with the warmer air associated the jet stream moving north.

So there is the forecast up above. As you can see there is a warming pattern!!

Heavy Lake Effect Snow Until Tomorrow Night

*Lake Effect Snow Warnings and Advisories are in effect for NW
Lower and parts of the UP* Lake effect snow and cold are the two weather stories
tonight. First, the snow is picking up and will move around the area tonight.

The snow will generally be focused in NW lower and in the UP
near Lake Superior.

Both of these areas could see 3-5" by dawn. Outside of the
lake effect, the cold air will be story. Plan on partial clearing with
temperatures dropping down into the teens and single digits. Lake effect snow
continues tomorrow with additional accumulations of up to 4" in the same areas
as tonight.

Overall, plan on extra time of headed out as most roads will
be snow covered and very slippery. Away from the lake effect, scattered snow
showers under mostly cloudy skies are expected. Highs stay chilly with readings
in the teens. Brisk winds will keep wind chill factors down in the single digits
above and below zero. The lake effect snow winds down Friday night as winds
shift around in response to an approaching small storm. The storm arrives
Saturday and along with it you will find some light snow.

The good news is that with this storm comes warmer air. Highs
Saturday will be in the 20's and low 30's. On Sunday, a cold front starts moving
through setting off some flurries or light drizzle but doesn't look to be a big
problem right now. Highs are expected to be back in the 20's and 30's.

A Very Cold Morning..Possible Warm Up

Wow it was quite cold out there this morning. Check out some of the temperatures this morning:

7-8 miles east of Grayling -26 to -35
Jennings -29

Mio -20

5 miles NE of Mt. Pleasant -9

Now It doesn't look like we will see these temperatures probably for a while. It looks like some of the forecast are coming true.

It now looks like the jet stream will start to move north witch means a lot more warmer air. Now the only problem is that since the jet will be by us that will lead to more storms. Can you say a repeat! It now looks like we could see quite an increase in storm activity. This almost looks like the pattern could repeat before December.

Now there is also one forecast possibility that is up in the air for this weekend. There is a possibility that we could see a storm system on the leading edge of the warm air. If this front comes like it is looking right now we could see a possible winter mix or icy conditions. That would equal a big mess.

Just for the record, The average high for this time of year is in the Upper 20's to Very Low 30's

Cold Stay's Around With Little Snow

Hey Everybody...

First I Want To say Sorry For All Of The Issues With Posting..The Website graphics are up and running and i haven't had time to update the blog. There was some major things that i have had to change. But i think that everything is back online!!!!

Ok now lets get onto the weather. Temperatures have been really cold over the last few weeks. Really every night we have seen temperatures in the negative numbers for the lows. Now it doesn't look like that is going to stop anytime soon.

Ok now according the National Weather Service, we should have a quite extensive warm up in early February. That would mean temperates about 35-40 degrees. Now since the NWS has been wrong in the long term temperature outlook i don't think i am going with that forecast.

So here is my forecast. I am thinking that we will see temperatures in the 20's to 30's but the big question is seeing the really warm temperatures. I Doubt It. I guess we will have to see what happens. :)

One more piece of good news is that if you are sick of snow that it looks like the snow is going to be on the light side. Really no snow in the area, Or least heavy snow!

Snow Storm,Cold Air, and Wind Going To Cause Big Problems

So I Am Not Going To Write Much But The Video Alert Update Explains It All.. Now We Are Going To See A Ton Of Cold Air.. It Looks Like We Could Have Some Big Problems Tomorrow Morning and then the snow should end in the afternoon. But then we are going to have some more snow for Wednesday with another snow storm..I Should have more on the system tomorrow!

Snow System Going To Miss Us This Weekend..But Then The Cold Comes!!

Hey Guys,

First I want to say that I am sorry for not posting for a few days. It turns out that there is something wrong with the website editor online..I'm trying to figure out what happened and how to fix it. That made the site go down for about 2 days..Now i still don't know what is exactly wrong with it yet but i decided to put it back up..we are running about 75-80% on the site..I Should hopefully have it fixed by sometime next week. But the site is up witch is every every good!!

OK Now Lets Get To The Weather. Today we had some lake effect snow showers in the area. About 60-70% of the area didn't see any some but the areas that did got about 2-4" inches of new snow.

Now In the last post i was talking about some snow for Friday Into Saturday..It looks like we wont get it. To Be quite frank! The storm has taken a southern path and is now going to pass south of Detroit. We may see a few snow showers from this thing but nothing that will make travel difficult. The Rest Of The weekend also looks to be pretty good with a few snow showers(like always) in the lake effect snow belts.

We are also watch another storm system that is going to move through the area on Monday. This Could Be Quite a dandy and bring the cold cold air in behind it..This one will need some watching. Will have more on that tomorrow.

Now we get into the really interesting stuff..

Now we all have herd on the news that Alaska had temperatures that are right around 40-60 Degrees BELOW ZERO..That is just mind boggling cold. Now it looks that after the weekend that ridge is going to dip our way and head all the way down to Florida. That means that we could see temperatures that could possibly not get out of the single digits for highs or possibly colder and possibly be 10-20 degrees below zero at night..That's cold. So cold that the weather office in Wisconsin said that this could possibly be the coldest year in 15 years!

Now One More Interesting thing that never see A La Nina pattern set up twice in almost a year. Yes it now looks like we are going to be a La Nina pattern now this isn't just a forecast we are starting to see observations that are starting to trend that we could be in another La Nina Pattern. This Means GET USED TO THE COLD AIR!!!!!

Snow Still Coming In..Not Looking As Heavy

Hello Everyone,

Today quite nice. I Was Thinking that we could see a few snow showers but it turned out that we didn't and we stayed with some sunshine with clouds. The Temperatures also weren't that bad in the Teens and Lower 20's..Tomorrow is looking about the same way. It looks like we will see a ton more sunshine than we did today. I even was thinking about bringing out the sunglasses:)
But once again it looks like we will see some more snow..Now I Was thinking that the storm would have stayed more west and that we would have more snow than what were forecasting. But it looks now that the storm has moved more eastern and that means that we wont have heavy snow:( It looks like we should start to see the snow at about 4A.M on Wednesday and it shouldn't end until mid afternoon on Thursday. Now don't worry it looks like all the snow will be light to moderate and wont make to much of a hazard.
Now after we get all done with that we will have a little break and then here comes another system. Now its only a clipper system but will bring some snow about 3-6"inches and have some winds with it, but not to bad.

But now we are looking at another storm system that will impact the area. I am thinking that this one will affect the are on Sunday night into Monday. It looks like this one could be a pretty big storm! Now i do not have the snow fall forecast for that..It's only 8 Day's AWAY ;)

The Weather Pattern Is Setting Back Up For More Snow Storms

It Looks like the weather pattern that has been messing with us bring storm after storm is going to continue for awhile..It looks like every three days we have another system..

So Now Onto the next system. It looks like we are going to see a huge system go through the southern states (Texas) and ride up to the north.(through Kentucky) and head up our way. It looks as of right now that the storm is going to bring all snow..Over a 36 Hour Period somewhere between 8-24" Inches.. But No Surprise that the forecast models are not in agreement on where this thing is going. There is a possibility that we could see a mix/ice if it gets really far west. Or if it moves Forecast then we could have less snow.

Now this system is going to be different than a lot of the other storms. We aren't going to just see a ton of heavy snow overnight and then its gone. NO. This system will be here for 36 hours and cause a lot of problems..Because it wont stop.

So after we get done with that storm it looks like a break for a while. Till Friday :);) It looks like another clipper system will come through..IT will be a little heavier than a regular system. I'm expecting about 5-8" inches of snow.

After that It looks like another possible Monster snow storm for Monday Into Tuesday and Through Until Tuesday Night.. This one could also be quite a mess.

Severe Weather Update 1-4-09

OK So The Ice didn't turn out the way that as I thought it would. We got and early ice event and not as bad as it could have been. It looks like the temperatures are going to be climbing through the day and should reach the 30's. Then drop like a rock. It looks like 12 degrees should be the temperature by 8A.M. That would make any water on the roads frozen causing problems

Power Outages Puts 17,840 People in the Dark

A powerful storm with damaging winds accompanied by rain, freezing rain and snow has left a remaining estimated 3,330 Great Lakes Energy members without power late Sunday afternoon. A total of nearly 17,840 Great Lakes Energy members were affected by the storm, which includes an estimated 14,508 whose power was restored by crews who continue to make progress despite poor weather and road conditions.

Crews have been battling the outages since approximately 4 a.m. this morning. Great Lakes Energy crews assisted by 16 contracted line crews will continue to work as long as possible tonight to restore power to as many of the remaining estimated 3,330 Great Lakes Energy members as possible who are in parts of Antrim, Charlevoix, Cheboygan, Crawford, Emmet, Kalkaska, Montmorency, Oceana, Oscoda and Otsego counties. Widespread outages were reported today in 24 of the 26 counties served by Great Lakes Energy. Great Lakes Energy members are advised to make emergency arrangements for the evening if their electricity is not restored by 10 p.m. Hardest hit by the storm were Great Lakes Energy members in Antrim, Charlevoix, Crawford, Emmet, Kalkaska and Otsego counties.

Current outage information by counties and townships that is updated every 15 minutes can be viewed on the Great Lakes Energy website, www.gtlakes.com, by clicking on Storm Central. People are reminded to stay away from downed power lines for their safety and protection. Snow Coming to an end Tonight...Then Rain, Ice, and Snow Coming Back

First Of All I want to say Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year..When i look back i still can not believe how fast this year has gone by..

Back to the weather we have had another 4-8 inches of snow today some of the heavier places were in the U.P and In McBain..

Christmas Day it looks like we are going to see a break in the weather..I am forecasting partly cloudy skies with about 35 for the high..

Then the next big storm is going to take its eyes on us...this one is going to be very messy. It is looking like we are going to see a mix Friday morning then going to all rain. For Saturday it looks like we are going to get all rain..with highs in the middle to upper 40's. Also looks like there is a good chance of severe weather for Saturday..Could be an outbreak.. This is all thanks to a lower level jet that is going to be quite strong witch will feed the region with warm moist air. Then Sunday it looks like we are going to freeze up again with highs in the 20's

The snow storm did come together right and we did get quite a bit of snow... Here are some reports of New Snow

Now we are getting ready for the next storm system..The system is coming in from the Rockies and looks to be packing quite a punch..Now the latest computer forecast model is showing that we could see 5-10 maybe 12" in some areas... That is almost turning out to be the normal around here!!!. It also looks like we could see another storm system for Christmas eve..No i am not going to forecast that one for a while...just a little far out to guesstimate!!! :)

Watching the storm System

OK..Now it looks like the storm system is going to not hit us as hard as i would have liked..I really enjoy all the storm systems..

OK so now it looks like we could have more like 8" inches instead of some of the heavier snow..It looks like we could see some heavier snow down state...

It also looks like we could see some more ice with snow in Iowa....That also could be interesting..

Another Monster Storm On Thursday Night Into Friday

OK Once again we are going to see another snow storm...O Boy!

This one looks to be more of a Snow producer here. Some forecast models show that we could have as much as 12" inches of snow.. But once again the forecast models can agree...SHOCKER...It seems that every time i turn around they change..One model said that we could have a good dose of freezing rain..Another one said that it would miss most of northern Michigan.

I am going with the forecast that brings the snow in over night..Around 11 to 12 Thursday Nigh that i think the snow will start and bring us more heavy snow..

OK So Here is my forecast... I am forecasting that we will get around 8-12 Inches in McBain Alone..So for everywhere else it is looking the farther south you go the worse the totals get..Until you reach the freezing precip. line then you are in really big trouble

P.S The Model showed that the Iowa, Wisconsin, Illinois State Borders That all connect we could see over a 1.25 Of Ice....WOW

Winter Ice Storm Update 5:30 A.M

Good Morning..

Wow these storm systems are getting nastier and nastier. We have had the starting of the "Flash Freeze". It is making all the water on the roads frozen which is causing huge travel problems. Now we also have dropped the temperatures from 40 Degrees at 3:30 A.m and we have already dropped down to 30 Degrees.

We have also had a huge wind component with this system. The Mackinac Bridge has closed to High Profile Vehicles. We have a wind advisory for wind that could exceed gusts up to 55 MPH. That is huge. It sounds like the house is ready to fall over..But it sounds really cool.

We Also Have Over 80 School Closings and NO Delays... It looks like we will be going over on those. Have 4/5 used :(

Storm/Forecast Update...Still in the Air

OK so Here is the latest update from the weather center.

Friday night looks to be clear with very little or no snow. Then Saturday we could see a few rain or snow showers with the warm front approaching.

Then it looks like we are going to have quite a storm. It looks like we will start off with some snow Saturday afternoon then have a break over night. Then the interesting part of the whole story comes in. It looks now that the storm system will also have fighting cold and warm air pockets. Basically there is a warm ridge starting to form.But there is also a cold air ridge that is also trying to form. Now it looks like this system will tap into the gulf moisture which means that there will be a ton of moisture with the system.

Now Back onto the system. It looks like we could see quite a few issues. I am forecasting a light rain turning into a heaver rain in the afternoon with highs in the middle 40's. Now we should see a switch over from rain to freezing rain. Here lies the next problem. We could have a long period of freezing rain. Or a very fast period of rain.. It all depends.

Later in the evening it looks like we will all switch back into snow. Also some forecast models are saying that we could be in quite a bit of trouble with the snow. We could possibly see a complete repeat of the storm that we seen on Monday night threw Wednesday night. It once again looks like there will be a ton of moisture with the system.

This will be interesting and i will definitely keep everyone updated. Check out the latest snow totals at the post under this one!

Here We Got Again.. We are now going to get more snow. We have an Alberta clipper on the way. It looks like we could have 1-3 inches in the U.P and really a trace in the Northern Lower Peninsula
It now also looks like we could see some more snow on Friday. This would be with a Warm front. We could get 2-4 inches in some of the heavy Spots. Then here comes some of the bigger problems. The warm front is going to pass on and then here comes the warmth. It looks like we could almost see a few 40 Degrees temperatures on Saturday.. Then we will go way down hill.. The system will start to move in..We will first start out with rain. That will start to see a switch over into Ice and that is when the problem comes in. Now I am not going to start on how much or how little Ice We Will See. That is still WAY WAY up in the air. But it could be very slick.

The rain that falls on Sunday will also freeze on Sunday Night that could make every thing come to a stand still. Then we could switch back over to snow Sunday Night.

Winter Storm Afternoon Update

Let It Snow Let it Snow... Its still snowing like cats and dogs up here in Mcbain... Our new Snow Totals Are Right Around 11' inches and we are probably getting about an Inch and Hour of snow maybe a little heavier. I have had a report of 20" inches of snow Already

I have talk to some of the local meteorologist and the new est. of snow could reach somewhere around 16-18 inches of new snow form this snow storm. That is a TON of snow..

I have looked at some of the snow pack are right around 2-2 1/2 FT of snow on the ground.. There is even greater amounts around the area...

This season has been a wild one.. We have had a snow storm every week to week in a half..which is scary because i read one forecast in October for the winter and it said that we could see this much snow this early..Really quite scary... It also said that we would have a warmer December and then we would go back down hill...

Just a heads up...I am now forecasting that this weekend we will once again see another snow storm..This one could bring us Ice, Snow, Sleet, and even rain.. It could be quite a mess!

Winter Storm A.M Update

Good morning Northern Michigan,

Our forecast have been almost exactly on track. We have actually beat our morning snow totals.. We forecasted 6"inches in some spots by 8A.M I just went outside and took an average of the snow amounts and we are about 7 1/2 inches here. So we are straight on track for our 14 inches forecast.

Now about the forecast.. I am expecting really some more snow showers after this whole thing is done..We also could have some good winds start to develop and that could cause some small blowing which would make the roads even worse..they are already bad.

Really there are no bad storms in the forecast the rest of the week. The GFS model is saying that there could be a very nasty snow storm for Sunday into Monday...This could be a very nasty mixed snow storm..Our temperatures are looking like they could be in the 30's...Which means ice

More Severe Winter Weather On The Way

Here comes another one! Winter Storm Warnings are posted for all of lower Michigan for tonight through all of tomorrow. Winter Weather Advisories are posted for the Eastern UP.Overnight look for snow to develop over most of lower Michigan. It may be nearly daybreak before it begins near the Straits and in the UP. An inch of snow is possible far north. Coming south there is a good chance of up to 3", overnight, for many areas. Lows drop into the mid 20's. Winds remain light.Tuesday will be a very wintery day. Substantial wet snow is expected for all of lower Michigan with the heaviest snow band of 6-12" running between M-32 and M-55, including Gaylord, Grayling, Houghton Lake, Cadillac and Traverse City. South of there, snow will run 3-5+". Across the UP 2-3 " is more like it.

Lower Michigan snow will be wet and heavy and producing very slushy, slippery roads quickly, tomorrow morning. Where heavier snow falls roads will become snow packed quickly.Snow continues into Tuesday night with additional lighter accumulation possible. Behind this storm, snow showers stay with us through Wednesday and Thursday. Temperatures will be very cold again Wednesday before moderating into the 20's for Thursday and Friday. Temperatures climb into the 30's for many areas over the weekend.

Get Ready for another potentially monster storm

This Is From Doppler 9and10 Meteorologist Jim Lehocky:

A very unsettled pattern, once again, will take shape for the first half of the new work week. In the near term through Monday late morning, we have a Winter Weather Advisory for Chippewa County for Lake Effect/System snow while Mackinac County is under a Lake Effect Snow Warning for moderate to heavy lake snow.

Amounts could exceed 6" with this system in these two counties...especially west of I-75 and south of M-28.A Winter Storm Watch is in effect for the most of the Lower Peninsula for Monday evening to Wednesday a.m. as another winter storm, this one coming from the southern plains, will take aim on the Great Lakes for later Monday into Tuesday (and possibly Wednesday a.m.!) One computer model takes the center of the storm through SE Lower Michigan and NW Ohio (this track favors quite the storm for Michigan!) while another computer model tracks it way farther south (the brunt of the storm missing the state).Basically snow will expand eastward into the state later tonight and Monday and increase as we head into Monday evening and Tuesday.

Again, the path of this storm is still not set in stone so we do have to keep an eye on it. But the way this late autumn pattern has been going, the favored track could be the one that really impacts the state for late Monday into Tuesday and early Wednesday. A lot of wind will be on the northern side of this storm for Tuesday and Wednesday which could produce some near blizzard conditions IF the storm indeed does move across SE Lower Michigan.Amounts with this storm will be substantial depending on that storm track.People with travel interests for the next few days anywhere in the state (and the Great Lakes for that matter) should keep close tabs on the changing weather conditions.

More Snow is on the way

OK Get Ready... Here comes some more. We already have winter storm Waring's and even blizzard warnings threw the area..Some estimates of some snow totals were up to 14" since last night...that's a ton.

Now i just checked out the wind gust and get ready and hold your hats.. We have wind gust up to 50 MPH coming our way and winds sustained at 20-30 MPH...

This means that we can expect white out conditions with tons of blowing snow and even more snow falling..

The bulls eye looks to be on Atnrim Country because the winds will be out the west which means that will be were the heaviest snow is going to fall. So be prepared for another 6-8 inches of snow in the normal heavy snow belt areas

Now for next week we are also looking at another possible storm for Monday night into Tuesday which could bring some more heavy snow to the region.....Can't Wait

Hey Guys..Sorry i haven't been posting regularly..There has been a lot going on with the new website and I'm in a huge musical..so i have been really busy with that.

Anyways lets get straight down to the weather because there is a lot to talk about..

Right now there is a low off in the Western Sea-board that looks pretty harmless right now but is straightening as I talk. The low is now looking like it will drop down into Georgia and Tennessee by Sunday Early Morning and then riding threw Ohio and possibly into Michigan. Now there has been a lot of talk about how much snow we could get..Some people have been saying if it heads farther south that we could see little amounts 1-3 inches. Now if the storm takes a more northerly track we could see some very heavy snow fall early Monday. Now those accumulations possibly could range up to 16+ inches if you factor the lake effect behind it.

That's the next part of the blog. There is now looking like a huge area of cold air will start to head down to the south. That is pointing at -8 degrees blow normal so highs would be in the lower 20's. With strong northerly winds that could equal a very very heavy lake effect snow machine.

Then after this huge low system some of the forecast models are hinting that we could see some very very cold air start to take over Canada. Then the models are saying that it could possibly pounce on the U.S with the coldest air we have seen this season.

Snow Will Continue Through out the Week

We have finally seen winter start to make a return...Snow showers have been increasing as the lakes let more snow fall.. This week looks like that will continue, The jet stream has dipped down to almost to Florida which is bring more cold air and which will lead to more snow... Now there is a chance this week on Thursday with a snow storm. Now it wouldn't be a big snow storm at all. But it could give us the first real system snow.

But other than that there is really nothing interesting weather going on in Northern Michigan...

Its Been Awhile... Snow Is Returning and Say Hello To Winter

Hey Guys...

Sorry it has been a long time since my last post... I have been every busy with school and working on some Major components to Dylan's Weather and its Future.... So Sorry for the Long Wait.... Was Not Expecting To Be This Busy

OK first from the headline above yes we are not really going to see any return to warmth until next year. We are looking at an La.Nina Pattern setting up again...or at least it is in the early stages. What that means is that we could see a colder and wetter winter pattern..

So Now onto the forecast.. This week looks like we are going to see lots of snow/rain/and wind. Monday into Tuesday we are going to have another big front move into the area which will bring even more rain and snow with temperatures that could leave possibly lower 20's for highs in Michigan. Defiantly the coldest air this season so far. We are also seeing a pattern show that is looking like a lot of stormy weather is on the way for us..:) Looks like a lot of Fun....

P.S There is going to be a lot of changes to the website.. Right now it looks like we are going to start a New H-D video forecast starting in January 2009... Also it looks Now like we are going to get a new H-D LIVE STREET LEVEL Doppler radar... That is one out of many reasons why i have been so busy

The Week Ahead

This Next Week Is Going To Be Very Interesting. The forecast model that you can see is showing that we could have some very cold air next week Tuesday. The forecast is saying that we could see Temperatures in the 40's for highs and maybe some upper teens for the lows. THAT'S COLD... We are also forecasting that this week will be almost like a roller coaster ride. There is going to be days that are going to be warm and sunny and then the next day its going to be rainy and cold. So get ready for an up and down week.

Now I'm going on a limb right now. But indications are that by Next Sunday Night Oct. 25 that we could see some snow... YES SNOW... It looks like it will be cold enough for some areas to see some wet flakes and maybe some ice. Now this is a very long way out for forecasting snow. But there is a possibility for seeing some snow.

Also one more thing for today. I'm Sorry for the small problems with the forecast graphics updating. I know that some days they don't update. My Internet is having a fit and works some days and doesn't the others. So if it continues this week i will get a hold of the Internet company and we will get this fixed.

So that's my intake on the weather for right now...If something happens i will tell you on here.

This Week Has Been Busy and Next Week Could Be Frost

OK.. First I want to say sorry for the website wasn't updated for a few days. School kind of caught up with me and i was busy working on school work... and no sleep. But it is updated for Thursday night.

The Forecast is for some very cold air at night this next week. This could mean that we could see widespread frost/freeze in the are this upcoming week. The 8-Day Explains it all

Also one more note that Hurricane Olmar is spinning in the Atlantic but it is no big deal for the U.S

Really Warm Air is going to be going away

Wow! It was Warm Today. Temperatures were in the 70's and some lower 80's. That is really warm for October in Northern Michigan. But it wont last long, we are starting to see rain in the area tonight. Now it wont be a total wash out, most of the rain will be in the U.P.

After tonight the temperatures are going to drop back down to normal and then maybe below normal. Now really we are trying to put the curtain doom out. I'm talking about snow, I have talked to some many people who say that they don't want snow and that i am a weather guy so that i should try to hold off the snow. Well unfortunately that is impossible and by the end of this month we could very possibly have snow. Sorry for the bad news.... So that's all for right now...

Cold, and Rain Is Going To Hit Us Hard This Week

Ok Guys Here Is The Lastest on this week. We are going to see a lot of cold this week. Now Tuesday and Wednesday are going to be very rainy. Basically we are going to see on and off rain the 2 days. Now on Wednesday night there is a chance for mabe some Ice pellets to be mixed in. Yes in a lose term that is snow. Now its not going to be bad... But thats how cold it is. Now after that it should start to turn nicer.. Now not really any warmer...just nicer.

Now i wanted to also bring up that if you want to that this weekend will be great for seeing colors on the trees. Temperatures will be in the 50's and 60's and it should be partly Sunny the whole weekend. Now after that there is a lot up in the air for next week. It could either be nice and sunny. Or we could see another repeat of this week with rain and cold.

One more thing for the weather blog tonight.... If you havent looked at the local forecast that they are brand new. I used Nasa World Wind For The Background. Now i also made it look more tecno.. Which is the theam of my new site. Also the heading is updated and I'm Trying not to make everything look so big... So Lots Of Changes!!!

The Week Ends Nicely...Then Everything Goes Down Hill

So Here's the scoop... Some things have changed in the forecast since last night. So like I was saying last night. Friday Saturday and Some of Sunday will be there nice. We Will see lots of warm moist air in the area. Then on Sunday will will see a cold front that goes through. Monday we will start to see the drop in temperatures. Like 70's and that would be pushing it. That's also the start of the pattern of really cloudy wet unstable days. Now at the end of the 8-Day Forecast.. See The Lows... Were getting in the 30's for lows.... That Could Mean We Could see some mixing of the rain in really cold spots... Yes it is possible and it has happened before!

The Jet Stream Is Still looking like it is going to take that dip as i forecast ed. The Model has changed and said that the ridge of warm air will be pretty slow moving. That means that once this typical ridge sets up that we will see some very cool and maybe even down right cold air, with rain and wind for what could possibly for the next 10 days... Sorry for the bad news :(...

One More big point... I said that those storms are no big deal... Well they got stronger.. We now have Tropical Storm Kyle on our hands.. This storm is going to move north in the Atlantic until it hits Maine or Canada... Now really I'm not that worried.. I Don't Think It Will Be That bad up there.

The Warm Weather Is Going To Try To Hang On... But Will Not Win Out

Hey Guys,

Sorry I Haven't Posted In awhile.. There is a quite a few things that need to be mentioned for the days ahead.... For the short term we are looking at still warm conditions until Saturday.. That means that we are going to see lots of 70's and just a few 80's. Then Sunday we start to see fall make an entrance. Then temperatures are going to tumble. On Tuesday Wednesday and Thursday we could only see temperatures in the lower 60's and 50's

OK So Now Onto my next point. I have took a close look at the forecast for the next few days and there is an interesting that could happened.. Some Models are saying that the jet stream will start to dip... That means that we will see days in the 60's and 70's and then a cold front hits and then we go back down into the 60's... The other thing this could mean is that we will see a very rainy and cloudy patterned for a while....

One More Quick thing for the Weather Blog tonight... There is also some possible tropical development.. Now its nothing to worry about.. The systems are going to move up the coast..and not affect the oil platforms... :)

A Frosty End To The Day... Then More Sunshine

OK.... Sorry I Said That I Would Update This On Tuesday.... Well I Had An Unexpected Singing Practice for Church..... Anyways Tonight is going to be a cold and chilly night. Were not going to see frost everywhere... I think that the frost will be in low-lying areas that usually see the colder temps. As for tomorrow, we are going to see generous amounts of sunshine but it is not going to be as warm as it was today... We Will Only see highs in the 60's around the area...As For Friday the same forecast holds true... We Will see lots of sunshine but the temperatures are going to tick up a few degrees..Now the next Chance of rain is going to be on Saturday with a cold front.. Now there is a few things up in the air on that. If 9and10's forecast is right then the cold front is no big deal and we will see no rain out of it... Now i did my forecast a little different then theirs... I said that there is going to be some pop up storms with some locally strong... so there is the forecast for right now... WOW.... Lot's Of Rain Fell This Weekend and New Stuff

Wow.... It has been a weekend.... We got a lot of more rain here in northern Michigan this weekend!!! Here at my studio in McBain we got "1.52" Inches and it made the grass that much greener.... Anyways its Sunday and i have had Internet issues all day:(..... So that gave me the opportunity to make a new 8-day forecast... Now even i was shocked for how this came out... It only took 4 hours to make but it looks like a 9and10news graphic....

Anyways the forecast is that tonight there is going to be a few showers but nothing bad.... Tomorrow it is going to start off the day with some cloudy conditions and then becoming clear... The temperatures aren't going to show it... We are going to stay in the upper 50's for the day... Now on Monday night, I'm still looking into this but there is a possibility for frost... So I will have more on that later.... Its like 10:00 P.M so i better get going..... Update this soon.

Thursday Not Looking That Bad Then Rain on and off threw the weekned.

First of all.... I'm sorry that i haven't gotten to my weather blog in a long time... Before school started. Well I think that i have a system down that will help me in getting everything that needs to be done...done... Anyways i just wanted to say that's why i haven't been posting... Way to busy and not enough hour's in the day... :(

OK So enough about me... let's talk about the weather... We are finally getting some much needed rain. All the lawn's are returning from there brown to there green's again!! We aren't in any kind of drought and i think that will continue threw out the rest of the year. Tonight is going to be a really nice night. We will not see any frost and really have nothing to worry about. Now as for Thursday i think that we will see increasing cloud's in the afternoon and some rain chances for the night and into early Friday. Now i don't think that Friday will be a complete wash out.. Just some rain in the morning and then drying out for the afternoon and the evening hours. Now for this weekend it's going to 30-70... Which means that Saturday is going to be a complete wash out.. With ton's of rain in the area... We are going to see the other side of the cold front... Then Sunday is going to start to dry out before possibly seeing the remnants of "Ike"

Tuesday Was Hot... But Cooling Way Down

Rain would be nice right now, and tonight a few of you will see some but not everyone. The dry air overhead is going win out as a strong cold front comes rolling into Northern Michigan tonight. That means the showers and storms to our west will fall apart and not much rain is expected. The best chance of seeing the rain will be in the U.P. Tomorrow looks a bit cloudier with some scattered showers or storms. However, the rain is going to be limited to areas east of of line from Alpena to Newaygo. So, this means most of you will not see any rain tomorrow. The storms that do develop are not expected to turn severe but could be quite strong for those of you east of I-75. The one thing everyone will experience is the cooler air. Highs are only going to reach the 60's and 70's. Thursday dries up for a little while with partly sunny to mostly cloudy skies. Then our eyes are watching the remnants of Gustav head up towards Michigan. Right now it looks like you'll see some rain from the system starting Thursday night and continuing through much of Friday. Unsettled weather dominates the weekend pattern too, with mostly cloudy skies and some showers. Highs remain seasonable with the mercury topping out in the 60's to low 70's.

There Is A Wild Card For Next Week.

There is a lot of the forecast up in the air next week. The funny thing is that it all lies on something that is happening in the gulf as we speak. Hurricane Gustav Is spinning in the gulf and could hit New Orleans sometime on Tuesday morning. Now we just passed Hurricane Katrina's 3 Year anniversary.

So here is the wild card. Scenario #1 An European forecast model is saying that Gustav will gain tremendous amount of Strength over the next couple of days. Now if this is true we could see one of my favorite thing's :{ A high pressure system develop over us for the out flow from Gustav. Now if this happens we are going to stay nice and hot next week with little if any rain.

Scenario# 2. The U.S forecast model is saying that we will see a weaker Gustav and that intend will lead no high pressure and it will rain on Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday of next week. Now personalty I'm hoping that this second scenario is going to happen.. We need the rain bad... and only getting worse.

Now just as our luck would have it. The Nation Hurricane Center is forecasting Gustav To be a Power full Cat. 3 Hurricane... That would intend that we should see a high pressure system develop and we stay dry with fire danger rapidly Increasing.

NOW HERE IS THE FORECAST

Friday dries out quickly and we should see good sunshine by mid-day. Across the UP skies stay a little cloudier. High temperatures still reach the low 70's far north to near 80 far south.Saturday starts much the same way but more sunshine spreads north. Temperatures will still be comfortable with highs in the 70's to around 80. By Sunday, however, real heat begins to build. Highs Sunday reach the mid 80's in the warm spots with lots of sunshine.Labor Day, Monday, will be full summer. Sunny and hot for most spots. Highs reach well into the 80's for both peninsulas, and temperatures only go up from there. By Tuesday many locations flirt with record high temperatures in the 90's.

Limited showers and thunderstorms have broken out already this afternoon and while chances of rain diminish some overnight, the best chances for widespread rains comes tomorrow. The few evening showers will taper off tonight. Look for cloudy skies and mild overnight temperatures with lows only in the 60's to near 70. Winds will remain breezy from the S-SW. Saturday starts with chances of rain right away though the most likely showers occur during the late morning and through the afternoon. Earliest rains will be across the far northern counties and the eastern UP. Mid-day and afternoon showers are more likely across most of the lower penninsula. Highs tomorrow reach the upper 70's far north to mid-80's far south. Winds will be brisk from the SW shifting NNW late in the afternoon or evening.Saturday night we dry out and Sunday looks mostly sunny, cool and dry. Highs will reach the upper 60's to mid 70's, only. Monday through Wednesday look dry. Our next good chance of rain doesn't arrive until Thursday.

Tropical Storm Fay Won't Leave

Well It's Been about a week since we first started to worry about tropical storm fay. It is really doing a good thing for the south west. They are in a serious drought that has been going on for years. This won't end it... But it will really help!

Here is the forecasted track that we think Tropical Storm fay will take. Now currently fay has straightened to winds at 60 MPH and the pressure is at 997 and is dropping. Now we expect fay to hit land again tomorrow over the northern part of Florida. Then move into Georgia and Alabama into the next few days. Which is going to really help there drought down there.

Now There was some forecast models that was pointing on fay to move up into our region and then we would get a few inches of rain which was good. But i said this in my previous post that i do not like the highs right now. We have to highs that is keeping rain from moving into northern Michigan. They have also made fay stay down to the south. So that's why we aren't getting any rain.

Now the forecast models are all over the place. As you can see the diagram that there is some that is pointing that day will go into the gulf and some say fay will move north. But most of them are pointing that fay will just meander around the SW region for a while. Then the high pressure system will start to break down and then we will start seeing chances of rain.

Northern Michigan NEED's RAIN

Wow is it dry.. We haven't seen a good soaking rain since June when we has all the 10 Inches of rain in like 2 Day's.But Now we need some. I would really like it if it came in the form of severe weather.But any rain is good. The 8-day forecast is showing some rain on Saturday.But I'm not keeping my hopes up.What i really think is going to happen is that some areas will see some rain but it won't be a wide spread thing and i don't think that it will help us much.This dry slot that we are seeing in NM is from these Stupid High Pressure systems that just sit and keep everything dry.As you can tell there not my favorite...

Here's The Forecast High Pressure is going delivering some cool nights. Tonight's skies remain clear and allows all of today's heat to escape back to space. That means some cool temperatures. Much of the region will drop down into the 40's, but some of the normally colder spots can expect readings in the 30's.Tomorrow is just like today with sunny skies. You could call it Arizona weather but with highs in the 70's to low 80's. Thursday continues the trend of bright sunshine but with slightly warmer temperatures. It looks like all of the area will see highs in the 80's. The humidity rises Thursday night, so it won't be all that cold. Look for lows in the 50's and 60's. The humidity continues increasing Friday along with the heat too. Some spots will be near 90 Friday with the possibility of few afternoon showers or storms. The next decent chance of wet weather arrives Saturday. That chance comes along a very strong cold front. Scattered showers and thunderstorms are expected as the system comes through. You could see some heavy rain and strong winds. Skies will calm down considerably going into Sunday. Fire Danger is Moderate to High across Northern Michigan. With dry air expected the next few days, we do not see any improvement until Saturday.

Next Week Looking Dry and Hot

Today was a nice Day. We had a few rain showers and some storms with small or any rain amounts. Some indications are that this could be the last rain that we see in 10 Days. Which means that the fire danger is back on the rise. Some that this something to watch out for. Now the forecast Models are saying that there is going to be a low that is going to meander up north. Now it all depends how much farther north it goes. If it stays down south than we are going to be dry and really really warm. Now if it moves farther north we could see quite a bit of rain fall. So i will keep you updated

Here is the forecast. Tomorrow looks little different than today with generous sunshine early on, then more cloudiness and a chance of a few showers. It does look like tomorrow will produce even fewer showers than today while temperatures remain much the same. Highs in the 70's.Saturday and Sunday begin a solid warm-up. Highs on Saturday will reach upper 70's to mid 80's. By Sunday highs reach the 80's for almost all and next week looks like it will be even warmer with highs reaching the upper 80's or more. The weekend looks dry at this time. In fact our next chance of rain doesn't appear in the forecasts until later next week.

Dry Week Ahead

Well today we did see some pop-corn clouds as we call it pop up. There caused by the day time heating. But really nothing happened today in the weather department. We are watching some rain that is in wisconsin. But we are in High Pressure and the rain will dive down to our south. We really need some rain, starting to get dry out there.

Here is the forecast. No showers, yet, but through the evening hours a random pop-up shower is still possible especially across our far NE counties in lower Michigan. Lows overnight, like last night, hit the upper 40's to mid 50's. Wednesday will be a little cloudier and therefore slightly cooler. It may be the best day for chances of rain but showers should be widely scattered and not, too, numerous spreading north to south during the day. Highs tomorrow range from 72 to 79.Wednesday night and Thursday will be mostly dry though, again, there is a slight chance for isolated showers both periods. Highs remain in the 70's to near 80. Lows in the 50's.By Friday high pressure takes over once more and we are looking at excellent conditions Friday, Saturday and likely Sunday. Skies should be sunny to partly cloudy all three days with the cloudiest period being late Sunday. Temperatures will range through the 70's to low 80's.

More Storms Today And Cool Air Is On The Way

There Was A Few Storms this Afternoon and there was some small hail reports. Nothing Much. We also had some severe thunderstorm warnings. It was kind of a cool rain pattern. The rain set up in bands and it looked like lake affect snow.... But thats way off...we hope! As You can see this is what the rain looked like on our very own XTREME Doppler...Anyway Heres the Forecast

Tonight, mostly dry conditions are expected. Lows will be in the 50's.Friday could be a repeat performance with mixed skies with a few thunderstorms mostly near the Lake Huron area. Highs will be in the lower to middle 70's with some upper 60's near Lake Michigan and Lake Superior.The weekend is looking more and more unsettled now. A cold front is now forecasted to drop southward into the region. This will give us a chance for a few showers and storms Saturday into Sunday a.m...then clearing out for Sunday afternoon and evening.

Storms Are Moving In

Heres the Scoop. We have Some Storms Moving In From Wisonsion. There could be some heavy downpoors. We really arnt Expetcting severe weather. But you never know, mother nature can do some amazing things. After this round of storms that you can see just on the left edge of our Xreme Doppler. We are expecting some rain to move through the night. Which will give us some much needed rain!

Here's the Forecast. Look for lots of northwest winds in the coming days, some sunshine at times, and also hit and miss afternoon showers to go with the cool air aloft. Tonight's lows will be mainly in the 50s. Tomorrow will be a tad cooler, but not much, with 70s across the board and another late day shower/storm chance. Friday and Saturday will be the coolest of the forecast period with highs in the upper 60s for the UP and even much of northern lower, with low to MAYBE mid 70s south. Sunday will warm again to the 70s but Monday the cool air may make another push. Lows Friday and Saturday night will likely fall to the 40 in many areas with 50s near the lakes and areas of fog.

I also want to tell people that there could be some big changes to the weather page. What there doing is shutting down googlepages. So i have an idea that im going to do. Its with the help of a T.V station in Cadillac Called Local Edition. I'm just going to tell you that they are really good people! Can't wait to work with them. So i will tell you as we work things out. But for now don't Worry... Everything will work out!

Nice Day in The North... Soggy day in the south

Hey guys,

Here is an update on the weather today. It was kind of a mixed bag. We had a nice day in the Northern Areas with temperatures in the mid-80's. We also had a pretty good day in the south with temperatures also in the mid-80's. But we did see storms fire up and head across the south. But it wasnt that bad of a day. Now we did have a few reports of some trees down but nothing to bad.

Tonight we are forecasting temperatures will be in the lower to mid-60's and it will be quite humid. Now we do have to watch for the possiblitly for some storms. Because we have dew points that are in the middle and upper 60's which is quite humid. For tomorrow we expect temperatures to be in the low 80's and we do expect some rain to move through and we could see some storong or severe storms. Not as nice as today.

Storm's End and Weekend Looking Amazing

Today was intersting. We did have a severe thunderstrom watch but that was just a percoustion. We could have had a lot worse. We did not ecpect the storms to die over the lakes. The storms did not refire over Northern Michigan. So you may have gotten a shower but we didn't have a bad night. This weekend is looking amazing. We expect Temperatures in the 70's and 80's With all SUNSHINE!!! We are expecting some showers on sunday night but nothing to go home about. So have a fun weekend and I will be back on monday....posibly watch for some more storms. But we will worry about that latter.

Today has been busy

Here's an update. A small tornado from overnight thunderstorms flattened a barn and damaged property in Clare County.The National Weather Service surveyed the damage at a home on Old U.S. 27 North of Clare. Two walls are all that's left of a nearly 90 year old barn that came crashing down. An old tractor inside the barn was spared. And the roof a carport ended up in a tree in the front yard of a family's home. No one was hert. I have also been very busy with our website ( http://dylansweather.googlepages.com/ ) I have added a new toolbar which helps me out cause now i can add more data and give you guys more options. I have also made it easier to acsses 9and10 news and tv 7-4. I have added links in the toolbar. So now all you have to do is log on and you dont have to go anywere else! Also my website has gotten 72 people to view it today. We are almost at 600 in a month!!!

Strong Storms Raked Northern Michigan Last Night

Wow was last night busy. At first I did not think we would see a lot of storms. But as the storm complex moved on shore they exploed. The atmosphere was primed but it was night. Thats why we did not see severe weather. We had a lot of lighting at our studio. It even nocked Tv 9-10 off the air for awhile. There was also a report of some small hail in Manistee and in northern clare county there was a report of high winds that nocked a barn over. But other than that we just had wind and heavy rain leading to some pretty good rain totals.

Todays forecast is that we could see a few thunderstroms up above a line from Manistee to Houghton Lake. Temperatures will be in the upper 70's to some low 80's and the dew points are on the rise. This meens that we will feel more humid out side and that will meen more unconforatable sleeping weather. Temperatures tonight in the middle 60's

Watching Storms Moving In

Well Its about 9:14 P.M and I'm Watching a storm line moving in from Wisconsin. There are some heavy storm cores and some moderate rain. Right Now we have temperatures in the middle 70's and skies are becoming more cloudy. We really don't expect a lot of severe weather. There is a chance of some storms that could reach the severe Level. But as the sun goes down that chance will diminish.

For tonight I am forecasting temperatures in the middle to upper 60's. Its going to be quite bad sleeping weather. After the rain moves out in the early morning hours we are expecting a sunny morning with with a nice sunrise. Then we are going to be in a pretty warm day tomorrow.
